Whats up!

My name is Billy Ray Mitchell. I am currently attending Virginia Tech pursuing a degree in consumer studies. Writing always came easy to me, but as a Division I football player there wasn't much free time to explore my talents. When my football career came to an abrupt end this year, I published my first article explaining my situation and how the school helped me get through it. With the support of the athletic department, my article received incredible reviews and it inspired me to continue to write. I am extremely passionate about sports and like to explore deeper into the players and the teams. Most importantly I like to talk about my own experiences through football and school that have made me into the man that I am today. I look forward to sharing some of my work and hearing your guys feedback!

Who wants a Piece of them?
Brooklyn’s new look Nets
By: Chris Mannix

When I first looked at the box of Sports Illustrated magazines to pick out the first magazine I would feature, I thought it would be tough to pick one. However, once I started digging there was Jason Kidd and Deron Williams staring up at me. Sorry to any Nets fans, but you can’t help but laugh at the nose dive that organization has took after such high expectations. Let’s dive into this…

This magazine released in October of 2013 as a double issue previewing the upcoming NBA season. The Brooklyn Nets (formerly New Jersey Nets) expectations were at an all-time high. Just the season before, the Nets signed their franchise player De...

Every year army and navy come together to play a game that is more than 100 years strong. However, what some don't realize is how much bigger this is than just a game...

Every time I get together with my old coaches and teammates from high school, we all somehow end up talking about how ESPN or some other network needs to feature this story as a documentary. Sitting here today a retired football player, looking back at my career and now having a website, I decided to take it upon myself to share this story.

I do not know where I would be without the influence and growth that this program nurtured inside me. I can almost guarantee my teammates all feel the same. The coaches and players of this program from this time period will forever share an unbreakable bond. Those guys are all family to me and I love them to death. The coaches of the program poured their hear...

I'm sitting here a day after the Celtics pulled out yet another victory over the LA Lakers 107-96 at TD Garden last night. After a rough start to the season with All-Star Gordon Hayward's gruesome injury and an 0-2 start the young Celtics have rattled off 10 straight wins. Question is how?

First off the talk of the off season was how the Celtics lost most of their depth in exchange for a ball hogging point guard. I have love for Avery Bradley, Jae Crowder, and IT as much as anyone else, but yet again Danny Ainge is proving yet again that he is a true architect and one of the best GM's in the NBA. Last night the Celtics bench and role players came up big all over the court.

Al Horford had to sit ou...

With the NBA season starting up tonight I just wanted to put a few things down here on some of the story lines headed into this season…

Who the hell can beat Golden State?

The warriors enter this season locked and loaded with the same devastating roster they had last year (PLUS SWAGGY P). However, with a new look western conference and a somewhat improved eastern conference can anyone actually beat these guys?

Believeland…

First off, the best player in the world resides in Cleveland, Ohio for at least one more season. In potentially his last season playing for his hometown Cavaliers, Lebron is going to be on a mission to hoist the Larry O’brien trophy again for the second time in three years. Clevel...

This weekend was a block full of free time Saturday since the Hokies had a bye week. So I decided to take a trip out to Giles county and hike Bald Knob. The drive from Blacksburg is around a half hour 19-mile drive through a beautiful mountain with great views of the New River Valley. The hike is only around .7 miles but is at a steep angle. A perfect spot if you want a quick trip with a gorgeous view but won’t take all day. In all it takes about 15-25 minutes to reach the summit. Definitely, plan on going back as the Mountain Lake lodge is located right where the trail for Bald Knob is located and check out some of the other trails in the surrounding area.

I am looking to take advantage of the b...

An in depth look at how football prepares you for more than the challenges you’ll endure on the field.

Football is the most popular game in our country and has been for quite some time now. People every summer sign up across the United Sates for an array of reasons. Maybe to stay in shape, get out of the house, meet new friends, have some fun, etc. All of these are great reasons to play. However, what most people don’t realize when they sign up is the valuable life lessons this game instills into you and how it turns you from a boy to a man.

So let’s jump right into it. From a spectator perspective, all you really see is two teams that are trying to beat one another. This in a sense is correct, bu...

Saturday night the Virginia Tech Hokies took on Boston College in a prime time match up under the lights in Chestnut Hill, MA. That night the Hokies defeated BC 23-10 and wide receiver Sean Savoy had a career night. The true freshman wide receiver out of Washington D.C had 9 receptions for 139 yards and a touchdown. However shortly after the game Sean received some devastating news. His older brother, Omar, had been killed Sunday morning just a few hours after the game back in D.C. Omar was only 25 years old and was the father of two young boys (ages 3 and 1).

Monday morning Sean posted the news to his twitter account ...

"Our hearts go out to Sean and his family on the loss of Omar...
